The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham [ ˈhæməsmɪθ ən ˈfʊləm ] is a borough west of central London .

founding

When the Greater London administrative region was founded in 1965, the London Borough of Hammersmith emerged from the Metropolitan Borough of Hammersmith and the Metropolitan Borough of Fulham in the former County of London . In 1979 "... and Fulham" was added to the name.

Districts

The division of the borough into 16 constituencies, valid since 2002. Only Sands End is both a district and an electoral district.

The districts or areas below the level of the urban districts have no clearly defined boundaries and no administrative significance.

The northern half of the borough consists of the former borough of Hammersmith and the boroughs

population

The population in 2008 was composed of 78.3% white, 5.6% Asian, 9.2% black and 1.1% Chinese.

concert hall

A concert and event hall in the Hammersmith district became known worldwide as the Hammersmith Odeon , which was the name it bore from 1962 to 2000. After that, the name was changed several times, today it is called the Hammersmith Apollo .

Sports

The stadiums of Chelsea FC ( Stamford Bridge ) and Fulham FC ( Craven Cottage ) are located in Fulham . The Queens Park Rangers Stadium ( Loftus Road ) is located in the Shepherd's Bush district .

Personalities

Twin cities

A partnership with the Berlin district of Neukölln has existed since 1955 . Other twin cities are Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris and the Anderlecht district in Brussels .

Church of England

As a regional bishop ( suffragan bishop), the bishop of Fulham is subordinate to the bishop of London and has no diocese of his own. It is a 1926 created episcopate in the Church of England .
