Crispian Mills (born Crispian John David Boulting ; born January 18, 1973 in Hammersmith , London ) is an English singer , guitarist and film director. He is the lead singer and guitarist of the band Kula Shaker .

Life

Crispian learned to play the guitar at the age of eleven. At 15 he came to Richmond College, where he met the bassist Alonza Bevan. The two soon discovered their common musical interests and began to make music together. They called their band Object of Desire , later Mantrashack . In 1991 the drummer Paul Winterheart joined the band. In 1993 Mills decided to go to India where he worked in a temple. It was here that he came up with the idea of ​​combining Indian classical music with rock music. Impressed by the temple chants, he also decided to incorporate Sanskrit words into his texts. After his return in 1993, the band engaged the organist Jay Darlington and renamed themselves Kula Shaker . The band later received a contract with Columbia Records . In 1996, "K" was the group's first album, which was also to be their greatest success.

After Kula Shaker broke up, Mills experimented with new musical ideas. This ultimately ended in the formation of the band The Jeevas with Andy Nixon and Dan McKinna. Their first album was a success in Japan but not in the UK or Europe. The Jeevas disbanded in 2005. In January 2006, Kula Shaker officially announced that the band had re-formed.

In 2012, the comedy Die terrible fear of the terrible appeared with Simon Pegg in the lead role, for which Mills acted as screenwriter, director and producer.

After a six-year hiatus, he and his band Kula Shaker released a new album called K 2.0 in February 2016, with which the band is currently on a world tour.

Private life

Mills is the son of actress Hayley Mills and director Roy Boulting . He has a half brother named Jason. His grandfather was the British actor Sir John Mills .

He is married to the model Josephine Mills (née Branfoot). In July 2008, Mills' first son Keshava was born. Until recently he lived in Bath , England .
