Charles Leiper Grigg (born May 11, 1868 in Prices Branch , Missouri , † April 16, 1940 in St. Louis , Missouri) invented 7 Up .

Life

Charles Leiper Grigg was born in Prices Branch, Missouri in 1868. He moved to St. Louis at the age of 22 and partnered with a carbonated beverage agency. In 1919 Grigg developed his first drink called Whistle . Success led Grigg to become the company's marketing manager. Because of a dispute, Grigg had to leave the company. Whistle is still made and sold in St. Louis today. He joined the Warner Jenkins Company and, in addition to flavors for soft drinks, also developed the Howdy drink . Together with Edmund G. Ridgway and Frank Gladney , he founded the Howdy Company . Grigg invented the “Bib Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda” drink in 1929 in St. Louis. He was married to Lucy E. Alexander Grigg.
