The Metro Station Charles Michels is a station on the Line 10 of the Paris Métro .
location
The station is located on the border of the Quartier de Grenelle with the Quartier de Javel in the 15th arrondissement of Paris . It is located lengthways under avenue Émile Zola at the level of Place Charles Michels.
Surname
It is named after the Place Charles Michels. The communist member of the 15th arrondissement and resistance fighter Charles Michels was arrested by the Germans on October 5, 1940 and murdered on October 22, 1941.
Until July 14, 1945 the station was called "Beaugrenelle". This name was given to the site by investors when the former village of Grenelle was parceled out. It is derived from "Belle garenne", which describes a beautiful place where wild rabbits live.
History and description
The station was built in an open excavation and was put into operation on July 13, 1913 with the opening of the first section of Line 8. At the time, it ran from the Opéra underground station to there. Until September 30, 1913, Beaugrenelle was temporarily the southwest terminus of line 8, before it was extended to Porte d'Auteuil .
On July 27, 1937, the western section of line 8 between La Motte-Picquet - Grenelle and Porte d'Auteuil was assigned to line 10.
In contrast to the elliptical cross-section, which is more common in Paris , the station has a horizontal metal ceiling. Longitudinal girders, which carry small vaults made of bricks, rest on iron support beams that are perpendicular to the direction of travel. It is 75 m long, 13.50 m wide and has 4 m wide side platforms on two main tracks. To the west of the station is a simple track change .
The two entrances are on Place Charles Michels. They are each marked by a candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the Art Deco style .
vehicles
Conventional MF 67 series trains run on Line 10 . Between 1975 and 1994 trains of the MA series ran , before that of the Sprague-Thomson type .
