The metro station Javel - André Citroën is an underground station of Line 10 of the Paris Métro . At the nearby Javel train station , you can change to line C of the S-Bahn- like Réseau Express Régional (RER). However, this is not directly linked to the station.
location
The station is located in the Quartier de Javel in the 15th arrondissement of Paris . It lies lengthways under the avenue Émile Zola at its confluence with the Quai André Citroën.
Surname
Initially, the station was only named “Javel” after the Quai de Javel street that ran along the left bank of the Seine . The former hamlet of Javel, mentioned in the 15th century as "Javetz", was incorporated into Paris in 1860 as "Javelle". In 1777 a chemical factory was established there, which had been producing the bleaching agent Eau de Javel since 1792 .
In 1958, the Quai de Javel was renamed Quai André Citroën, in this context the station received its current double name. The engineer André Citroën (1878–1935) built an ammunition factory in the Quartier de Javel in 1915, and after the First World War he produced motor vehicles.
History and description
The station went into operation on September 30, 1913 with the opening of the western extension of Line 8 from Beaugrenelle (since 1947: Charles Michels ) to Porte d'Auteuil . On July 27, 1937, the relevant section of line 8 between La Motte-Picquet - Grenelle and Porte d'Auteuil was assigned to line 10.
It lies under an elliptical vault, the side walls follow the curvature of the ellipse. The ceiling and the walls are tiled in white. At 75 m, it has the original Parisian standard length, sufficient for five-car trains. The two main tracks are flanked by two side platforms.
Immediately to the west of the station, the stretch south of the Pont Mirabeau bridge crosses under the Seine in five caissons .
The two entrances are on either side of the avenue Émile Zola near its confluence with the Quai André Citroën. The north is marked by a Val d'Osne candelabra,
vehicles
Conventional MF 67 series trains run on Line 10 . Between 1975 and 1994 trains of the MA series ran , before that of the Sprague-Thomson type .
