Charles Mozin

Charles Louis Mozin (March 12, 1806 in Paris , † November 7, 1862 in Trouville-sur-Mer ) was a French painter. He is the grandfather of the post-impressionist Fernand Piet .

Life

The brother of the composer Théodore Mozin was a student of Xavier Leprince . He is considered the "discoverer" of Trouville-sur-Mer , which developed into a popular seaside resort at the end of the 19th century . At the age of nineteen he first came to the fishing village on the coast of the English Channel in Normandy , where many of his pictures were taken. Here he met the painters Paul Huet and Eugène Isabey , and in 1829 Alexandre Dumas spent his first vacation here.

In many of his works, Mozin follows the tradition of marine painting by artists such as Claude Lorrain and Nicolas Marie Ozanne , in others he approached Charles François de Lacroix and Joseph Vernet .

Works by Mozin are among others. a. owned by the Musée Eugène Boudin in Honfleur and the Musée de Trouville - Villa Montebello .
