Charles Noble Arden-Clarke
Sir Charles Noble Arden-Clarke (born July 25, 1898 in India , † December 16, 1962 in Syleham , Suffolk ) was a British colonial administrator.
He was the chief police chief of Bechuanaland (later Botswana ) between 1937 and 1942 . From 1946 to 1949 he was governor of the Sarawak Crown Colony . From 1949 to 1957 he was the governor of the Gold Coast . In 1957, the year of independence, the Gold Coast was renamed Ghana and Sir Charles Noble Arden-Clarke became the first Governor General of Ghana. His successor in office that same year was William Hare, 5th Earl of Listowel .
On August 16, 1946, he was promoted to Knight Bachelor . On January 1, 1948 he was Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George , and on January 1, 1952 Knight Grand Cross of the same order.
