Charles Racquet

Charles Racquet (* around 1598 in Paris ; † January 1, 1664 there ) was a French organist and composer .

Life

Charles Racquet received his training from his father Balthasar Racquet (around 1575 to 1630). Throughout his life he worked in his hometown Paris, where he was organist at Notre Dame de Paris from 1618 to 1656 . In the mid-1640s, his son Jean Racquet became his father's assistant. Charles Racquet was also the organist of the Queen Mother Anne d'Autriche .

Racquet was considered an excellent organist and composer, he probably created a large number of works for his instrument, but only twelve psalm verses and one fantasy have survived.
