Charles R. Plott

Charles Raymond Plott (born July 8, 1938 in Frederick, Oklahoma ) is an American economist .

Life

Plott earned a BS in production management from Oklahoma State University in 1961 and an MS in economics in 1964 . He moved to the University of Virginia , where he received a Ph.D. in economics. He was then at Purdue University from 1965 to 1967 assistant professor , then from 1968 to 1970 associate professor of economics.

Plott has been an economics professor at the California Institute of Technology since 1971, and director of the Laboratory for Experimental Economics and Political Science since 1987. From 1987 to 2013 Plott was Edward S. Harkness Professor of Economics and Political Science at the California Institute of Technology, and since 2013 William D. Hacker Professor of Economics and Political Science there.

Plott was President of the Public Choice Society from 1976 to 1978 , Vice President from 1985 to 1987, President of the Southern Economic Association from 1989 to 1990, President of the Economic Science Association from 1987 to 1988 ; from 1998 to 1999 President of the Western Economic Association International and from 2009 to 2010 President of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory . He was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1985 and the National Academy of Sciences in 2007.

Plott deals with behavioral economics , experimental economic research and the question of regulation . He also researches political design.
