Charles Sedelmeyer (* 1837 ; † 1925 ) was an Austro-French art dealer and art collector .

Life

Sedelmeyer worked as an art dealer in Paris from 1866 , where he owned his own gallery. In 1901 he sold an altarpiece by Raphael , the Pala Colonna , to the American JP Morgan . The sale that year was the most expensive painting of its time. In 1893 he acquired the French Ambleville Castle . Sedelmeyer was married. His daughter Emilie married the art historian Stanislas Lami .

Sedelmeyer died at the age of 88 and was buried in the Cimetière de Montmartre .
