Lamis sculpture from 1897

Lami's father Alphonse Lami (June 2, 1822 in Paris - July 17, 1867 in Alexandria) was also a sculptor and Egyptologist and a friend of Auguste Mariette . His mother was Alexandrine-Marie Bidauld, a daughter of the landscape painter François-Xavier Bidault and he continued the artistic line in his family. He worked together with Albert Lebourg in a studio. Lami's first works were shown at the “Salon des Artistes Français” in 1882, where he regularly exhibited his works until 1942. His sculptures have also been shown in exhibitions abroad, including in Munich in 1892, in Chicago in 1893 and in Brussels in 1897. On the VI. International art exhibition in Munich, he received a medal for sculpture. He was honored in 1887 for his marble sculpture L'Epave , further awards followed, for example for L'Echo . He received several medals for further works.

In 1884 he published the Dictionnaire des sculpteurs de l'Antiquité jusqu'au VIe siècle de notre ère a reference work on sculptors from antiquity to the 6th century AD. His work as an art historian includes the compilations and biographies of the sculptors of the French school ( Dictionnaire des sculpteurs de l'école française ). From 1907 to 1911 he contributed to volumes 1 to 5 of the General Lexicon of Fine Artists from Antiquity to the Present .

Christiane and Jacques Sainsère with their children (by Ernest Laurent)

Lami had been married to Emilie Sedelmeyer (April 6, 1871 to August 21, 1961), the youngest daughter of the art dealer Charles Sedelmeyer , since June 24, 1891 . They had a daughter Christiane (1893–1978), of whom Lami made a bust, which was exhibited in 1899 as a portrait d'enfant 'Portrait of a Child' in the Salon des Artistes Français (No. 3618). More of his works date from this period, including a child bust by Marc Lami as well as busts and a standing figure of his wife Emilie. Christiane later married Jacques Sainsère, a son of the politician Olivier Sainsère. Lami made a second portrait of his daughter when she was 22 years old.
