Charles Spielberger

Charles Donald Spielberger (March 28, 1927 - June 12, 2013 ) was a clinical psychologist who became known for his state trait fear model .

Life

He received his PhD in psychology from the University of Iowa in 1954 . In 1991 he was president of the American Psychological Association .

From 1972 to 2003 he was professor of psychology at the University of South Florida in Tampa , since 2003 he has been retired .

He died on June 12, 2013, leaving behind his wife Carol and son Nicholas.

State trait fear model

The State / Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was first published in 1970 by Spielberger, Gorsuch & Lushene and revised to the current form in 1983.

The inventory is based on a 4-point Likert scale and represents a questionnaire procedure for recording current and habitual fear .
