Charles Varin
Charles Varin , real name Charles Voiron , stage name Victor (born January 20, 1798 in Nancy , † April 24, 1869 in Paris ), was a French playwright.
Life
Charles Voiron was appointed to the profession of notary by his father, but dropped out after ten years and went to Paris. There he devoted himself to theatrical writing, but had no success for a long time. His father refused to give him any financial support. When he made his breakthrough in 1825, he first called himself Victor before taking on his final stage name Charles Varin in order to distance himself from the unpopular family name Voiron.
Varin wrote mainly cheerful and theatrical vaudevilles , mostly in collaboration with other authors. These included Jean-François Bayard , Louis François Clairville , Paul de Kock , Félix-Auguste Duvert , Eugène Labiche , Henri Rochefort , Théophile Marion Dumersan , Michel Delaporte , Etienne and Jacques Arago .
In August 1864 he was made a knight of the Légion d'honneur .
