Michel Delaporte (born September 1806 in Paris , † September 30, 1872 ), full name Pierre-Michel Delaporte, was a French playwright, political caricaturist and illustrator .

biography

After finishing school at the College d ' Amiens , Delaporte began his training with Jean-Baptiste Regnault in 1824 . There he learns the making of lithographs , the design and creation of pictures and the art of paper cutting . After completing his training, Delaporte worked, among other things, for the journal La Caricature , for which he designed caricatures and also made the lithographs. In addition to his own work, he also uses caricatures by other artists, such as B. Frédéric Bouchot , as a lithograph.

From 1835 he began to write plays in addition to his work as a caricaturist. One of his first was La Fille de l'air dans son ménage , which he wrote with the then very famous actor Charles-Honoré Rémy . This was premiered in 1837 at the Théâtre des Folies-Dramatiques . As a result, he wrote many vaudevilles , mostly together with other authors. Delaporte also wrote a number of libretti . His best known is Monsieur et Madame Denis , for whom Jacques Offenbach wrote the music.

From 1852 to 1853, Delaporte published political cartoons in the Journal La Charche , but was forced to give up that part of his career because he was suffering from cataracts and his eyesight was insufficient. His last play had its world premiere in 1869.
