Charlie Brooks (murderer)

Charlie Brooks Jr. (born September 1, 1942 in Texas , † December 7, 1982 in Huntsville , Texas) was an American murderer . He gained media fame for being the first person in Texas to be executed by lethal injection after the death penalty was reinstated .

On December 14, 1976, he and his accomplice Woody Lourdes shot and killed a car dealer after arranging a test drive. While Lourdes was sentenced to 40 years in prison, Brooks received the death penalty. During his imprisonment , he converted to Islam . He addressed his last words to Allah before the execution :

"Yes, I do. Ich liebe dich. Asdadu an la ilah illa Allah, Asdadu an la ilah illa Allah, Asdadu anna Muhammadan Rasul Allah, Asdadu anna Muhammadan Rasul Allah. I bear witness that there is no God but Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Inna li-Allah wa-inna ilayhi rajiun. Verily unto Allah do we belong, Verily unto him do we return. Be strong. "

The execution of the sentence took place on December 7, 1982 in the Huntsville Unit . Brooks' execution utensils are on display at the Texas Prison Museum in Huntsville.
