Charlie Calmeyn
Charlie Calmeyn (* 11. January 1920 in Brussels ) is a Belgian jazz - drummer and big band -Leader.
Calmeyn directed a student orchestra for swing music in 1937 and a big band in Belgium from 1938 to 1947. It played among other Toots Thielemans , the saxophonist Jean Robert (1908-1981) and the trumpeters Janot Morales and Al Goyens , guitarist Bill Alexandre , later orchestra leader Henry Segers and drummer Jeff De Boeck . In the 1970s and 1980s he also led a big band in Brussels ( Charlie Calmeyn Orchester ). He also recorded with his big bands.
