Charlie Schumacher (born May 12, 1939 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss trombonist who mainly devotes himself to jazz .

Life

At the age of 15, Charlie Schumacher learned to play the trumpet in boys' music. Colleagues in Lucerne motivated him to switch to the trombone instrument. After self-didactic training, Schumacher became a member of the Stella Boys , a jazz band that played in Swiss barracks at entertainment events for recruits in 1957/58 on behalf of the Stella Filtra cigarette brand .

In February 1957, the Old Time Jungle Cats played on the Dietschiberg , where Schumacher was also present. After a spontaneous jam together, he was invited to become a permanent member of the band. The next morning Schumacher played together with the band in the Lucerne Nölliturm . For 53 years Charlie worked as a trombonist and singer as a permanent member of the band, including radio and television appearances, participation in the Zurich Jazz Festival (1958-'64), the 8th German Jazz Festival in Frankfurt am Main in 1962, and at Soho in 1989 Jazz Festival in Leicester Square, London . Concerts and appearances took place across Switzerland, Germany, England, France, Austria and Spain. He was also a multiple winner of the Jazz Festival Zurich in the old style as well as in modern jazz.

Schumacher also played in 47 bands as a permanent member and / or replacement, including the Bucktown Jazz Band (1995–2012), the Chicago Swing Rats (2009–2014), the Riverboat Jazz Band (2003–2006), the Dixe Jumpers (2005–2010 ), the Lazy River Jazzmen (2005–2011), the Palme Allstars (2006–2012), Royal Sonesta (2011–2012) and Jazz <n> Joy (2011–2012).
