Charlottetown is a municipality ( town ) in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador . Charlottetown was founded in 1950 by Benjamin Powell. The parish was named after Charlottetown , the provincial capital of Prince Edward Island .

Charlottetown is located on the south bank of White Bear Arm , a cove in southeast Labrador , 28 km north-northeast of Port Hope Simpson .

Charlottetown has a small airfield ( IATA : YHG). The 30 km long Route 514 connects Charlottetown with the Trans-Labrador Highway . There is also a boat connection to the remote settlement of Normans Bay .

population

In the 2016 census, the municipality had a population of 290. Five years earlier it was 308. Thus, the population has decreased slightly in recent years. The population consists mainly of Métis .
