Carl Anton “Charly” Bieler (born July 23, 1948 in Chur, GR ) is a Swiss journalist , columnist, non-fiction author and advertising copywriter.

Life

Carl Bieler, who grew up in Chur, completed an apprenticeship as a structural draftsman and completed additional training as a facade designer in Aesch BL. Returning to his hometown, he began taking photos and writing for the local daily newspapers while working. In 1972 he became a local reporter for pictures and text for the liberal daily newspaper Der frei Rätier . After the merger of the two daily newspapers Der Freie Rätier and Neue Bündner Zeitung to form the Bündner Zeitung, he wrote and photographed for this newspaper from 1974 to 1978. From 1976 he also worked regularly as a photographer for the Keystone picture agency .

In 1978 he moved to the Zurich daily newspaper Tages-Anzeiger and became an editor in the field service for the cantons of Graubünden and Glarus as well as the Principality of Liechtenstein based in Chur. From 1996 to 1999 Carl Bieler worked as a travel journalist and reporter for Sonntags-Blick and in 2000 moved to the same position for the weekly newspaper Der Brückenbauer , today Migros-Magazin , where he worked until his early retirement in 2010. In addition, he worked as a copywriter in the tourism sector and wrote various non-fiction books.

He is married and has two grown children.
