Charmian Carr

Charmian Carr (born Charmian Anne Farnon ; born December 27, 1942 in Chicago , Illinois - † September 17, 2016 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .

Life

Charmian Carr was the second oldest of three daughters of the actor couple Brian Farnon and Rita Oehmen . Her sisters are actresses Loeren Carr and Shannon Farnon . She grew up in Chicago for the first few years before moving to California with her mother and sisters in the early 1950s . Her parents divorced shortly afterwards. As a girl, she attended San Fernando Valley State College .

Through a friend she met the director Robert Wise , who hired Charmian Farnon for one of his most famous films. In My Songs - My Dreams , she embodied Liesel von Trapp, the eldest daughter of Baron Georg Ludwig von Trapp , at the age of 23 in 1965 . She was able to prevail in the casting against later actors such as Geraldine Chaplin , Patty Duke and Sharon Tate . One year after the shooting she was in 1966 for the television movie Evening Primrose at the side of Anthony Perkins in front of the camera.

Carr soon retired, however, into private life. She became an entrepreneur and ran an interior design firm, Charmian Carr Designs, in Encino , California.

In 1967 she married the dentist Jay Brent. The marriage, which was divorced in 1991, had two daughters.

She died in Los Angeles on September 17, 2016 at the age of 73. She suffered from dementia, the complications of which she did not survive.
