Khazarian Sea and Khazarian Peninsula
Khazarian Sea is a back translation from Arabic (بحر الخزر, DMG Baḥr al-Ḫazar ) and Turkish ( Hazar Denizi ) chronicles of the 13th century for the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, respectively .
The name was derived from the Turkish nomadic tribe of the Khazars , whose empire extended to the shores of both the Black Sea and the White Sea (another name for the Caspian Sea ) into the 10th century . It is not the White Sea of the same name , which is a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean . Later, however, only the White Khazarian Sea , the Caspian Sea, was referred to as the "Khazarian Sea".
The Crimean peninsula , which lies on both the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov , was therefore mostly passed down as the Khazarian Peninsula in medieval chronicles .
