The Chaucheprat Point is a low headland on the northwest foothills of Jonassen Island in Antarctic Sound off the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula .
The French polar explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville named in 1838 during the Third French Antarctic Expedition (1837-1840) an object in the area as Cape Chaucheprat ( French Cap Chaucheprat ). Since this could not be clearly assigned, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee decided on February 12, 1964 to transfer the name to the headland described here. It is named after the French naval officer François-Charles Chaucheprat (1792–1853), secretary to the French naval minister Claude du Campe de Rosamel (1774–1848).
