The Chaumont Bay is a bay in Jefferson County in the US state of New York and a branch of Lake Ontario . Larger settlements on the bay are Chaumont and Three Mile Bay . On the Point Penninsula peninsula to the southwest of the bay there is a nature reserve, the Point Penninsula Wildlife Management Area , which is bordered in the north and north-east by a campsite, a few weekend houses and boat docks. The only significant tributary is the Chaumont River .
As of 2007, the water body is classified as polluted by plastic and sewage inputs. As a result, the consumption of self-caught fish and swimming in the lake is only recommended to a limited extent. The construction of a sewage system and a sewage treatment plant in the largest river bank settlement, Chaumont, in 2002 would have contributed significantly to improving the water quality; the unconnected, isolated huts and houses along the lakeshore would still be a problem.
