Au Gres is located on the Au Gres River , only a few hundred meters from Saginaw Bay of Lake Huron , where the river also flows. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has an area of 6.2 km², of which 5.9 km² is land and 0.2 km² (= 3.78%) is water.
US Highway 23 , which runs along the shore of Lake Huron, crosses the town. From mid-May to mid-October there is a ferry between Au Gres and Charity Island, about 15 km away in the middle of Saginaw Bay.
Demographics
At the time of the United States Census 2000, Au Gres lived in 1028 people. The population density was 174.1 people per km ². There were 733 housing units at an average of 124.1 per km ². The Au Gress population was 95.43% White , 0.29% Black or African American , 1.17% Native American , 0.29% Asian , 0.10% Pacific Islander , 0.10% said others Belonging to races and 2.72% named two or more races. 0.49% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
