Chaz Bono
Chaz Salvatore Bono (* 4. March 1969 in Los Angeles , California as Chastity Sun Bono ) is an American actor and as a trans man activist of the lesbian and gay movement .
Life
He was born as a child of the pop duo Sonny Bono and Cher and was given the female first name Chastity (in German: "Chastity") based on Cher's first film Chastity , which was released shortly before his birth.
In January 1990 Bono was outed as a lesbian by the tabloids, lived openly as a lesbian until 2008 and appeared in various US media such as Out and The Advocate . Bono is a member of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and the Human Rights Campaign .
In November 2008, Bono announced that he was transgender and that he was undergoing gender reassignment measures . His mother Cher supported the now named Chaz Bono unreservedly on this path. Since the beginning of May 2010, after the responsible judge in Santa Monica, California granted the request for a change of gender and name, he has also been legally a man. At the Sundance Film Festival in January 2011, the documentary Becoming Chaz by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato premiered.
