Cheap Calls is a free iPhone - and Android - Application that cost telephone calls allows in more than 170 countries.
The application was developed by 118000 Innovations GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of 118000 AG .
Technical characteristics
Phone calls to cheap calls are forwarded either via call through or callback mode. Both methods work for calls to the fixed network as well as to the mobile network .
Call through
With the call-through procedure, the call is set up using a dial-in number from the national landline network, from which the caller is connected to the actual number of the other party. The connection via the dial-in number takes place automatically as soon as the phone number has been entered.
Callback
With the callback procedure, the caller is automatically called back by the service provider on his number. The caller is then connected to the person you want to talk to.
Call costs
By transferring the call via call through or callback, costs can be saved on phone calls via cheap calls that would normally be incurred with a direct call abroad.
Call through costs
Since the call is set up with this method via a national dial-in number, the caller only pays the charges for a normal telephone call to the landline network of the respective country. In addition, Cheap Calls calculates specific minute prices for each country, which are listed on the website of the application for each country.
Cheap Calls recommends that its users only use Callthrough if a flat rate or a package of inclusive minutes is available for the national landline network, since in this case the caller only has to pay the fees for Cheap Calls.
Callback costs
In the callback mode, the costs for a call are made up of the respective national tariff and the additional fees charged by Cheap Calls.
According to Cheap Calls, callback is the better option if the caller does not have a flat rate or free minutes for the national landline network. A callback call is still cheaper than other offers for calls abroad.
Use in foreign networks
The application does not avoid any roaming costs. Therefore, the provider advises to use a SIM card from the respective country when staying in a foreign network .
Compatibility and Availability
Cheap Calls is available for iPhones in version 3.3 and smartphones with the Android operating system in version 2.0.10. Apple iOS 3.0 or higher or Android 2.1 or higher is required .
The application can be downloaded free of charge from various Internet sales portals, including the App Store and Google Play .

The CHIP Online website says: “A useful app if you often make calls abroad and have not booked a corresponding tariff. iPhone users use the iOS version. "
In the iTunes store, Cheap Calls is one of the top rated telephony applications with 4.5 stars (as of October 2012).
In the Android store AndroidPIT, the design of the application is criticized as old-fashioned.
