The Dutch shipping company Chemgas Shipping BV , based in Rotterdam, is part of the German shipping company Jaegers Group . It is the first shipping company to transport liquefied petroleum gas, known as LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), on inland waterways and thereby played a role in the rapid development of petrochemicals . In 1965, Gastankvaartmaatschappij Chemgas BV was founded by the Dutch companies Van Ommeren (now Vopak ) and Vulcaan. Chemgas Shipping BV is currently the largest shipping company for gas transport in Europe. A subsidiary is Chemgas Barging Sàrl in Luxembourg, which is responsible for inland shipping. Chemgas has a 50 percent stake in the French company CFT Gaz , based in Loire-sur-Rhône , and operates gas tankers in France.

development

In the 1980s, the company developed the first coasters for use in sea and inland shipping. Chemgas was also involved in the development of special hulls with a double outer skin, such as the Scheldehuid .

In 1985, the shipping area was expanded to include the sea and so the sea and inland ports can be served without reloading. In 1991 there was a joint venture with the French CFT to form CFT Gaz for the transport of gases on the Rhone . Around 1995 the first ships were built from particularly light steels. In 1007 the company entered the Asian market with two coast motor tankers. In the following year, the Rhone fleet was expanded by three ships. In 2002 a new type of ship with a Y-shaped outer hull was built. Since this construction offers a high level of collision protection, the cargo tanks can be made larger.

In 2003 it was partially taken over by the German tanker shipping company Jaegers. In the following years the sea fleet was enlarged and an extensive renovation program began with the construction of six inland vessels, two push boats and four coastal motor tankers. Chemgas Barging Sàrl was founded in Luxembourg in 2007. The fleet consists of around 30 motor ships, push barges and push boats with around 56,000 m³ of tank space.
