The concessionaire of the 193 km long route network between the cities of Lons-le-Saunier , Saint-Claude and Champagnole was called Compagnie Générale des Chemins de fer Vicinaux . The construction work was carried out in 1895/96 and operations began gradually from 1898–1927. In 1927 part of the network was electrified with a nominal voltage of 1.5 kV.
