Cheng Hon Kwan

Cheng Hon Kwan (* 1927 ) is a Chinese civil engineer and politician based in Hong Kong.

Cheng Hon Kwan went to school in Beijing and Tianjin and studied civil engineering at Tianjin University with a bachelor's degree in 1948. He then went to Hong Kong, where he first worked in the construction industry and in 1953 became an assistant structural engineer in the city-state administration. He went to England to study and graduated from Imperial College London in 1964 , specializing in solid construction. In 1965 he became a senior civil engineer in the Hong Kong Construction Department. In 1977 he retired there and opened an engineering office HK Cheng & Partners.

In 1978/78 he became President of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. When Hong Kong got a legislature in 1985 he became a member of the Legislative Council and from 1988 to 1991 he was on the Hong Kong Executive Council. He has served on many committees and boards in Hong Kong, particularly on construction matters (such as chairing the Land and Building Advisory Committee).

He is CBE and in 1998 he received the Gold Bauhinia Star. In 2001 he received the gold medal from the Institution of Structural Engineers .
