Zheng Minzhi
Zheng Minzhi ( Chinese 郑敏 之 , Pinyin Zhèng Mǐnzhī , W.-G. Cheng min-chih ; * 1945) is a former Chinese table tennis player . She became world champion three times.
Zheng Minzhi plays with the shakehand racket pose. You first heard of her when she defeated reigning world champion Qiu Zhonghui at the Chinese team championships in 1961 at the age of 15 . In 1962 she won the Chinese championship in doubles together with Lin Hsi-meng.
She has been nominated four times for participation in world championships . Together with Lin Huiqing , she became world champion in doubles in 1965 and 1971 . In 1965 she was also part of the Chinese world championship team. In 1971 she took silver in singles behind her doubles partner Lin Huiqing. In the team competition, she finished second in 1971 and 1973 . In 1973 she was unable to defend her doubles title because her partner Lin Huiqing was unable to take part due to liver disease.
In 1974 she ended her career as a competitive athlete.
Then she coached the Chinese women's national team. In 1979 she became Vice President of the Chinese Table Tennis Association. Today she lives in Shanghai.
