Life

Chiara Badano was born in 1971 in Sassello, a small village in northern Italy. The father was a truck driver, the mother an employee in a company that produces amaretti. Chiara attended kindergarten and elementary school in Sassello, played sports and learned to play the piano. When she was 14 years old, the family moved to the city of Savona. In January 1989, Chiara was diagnosed with aggressive bone cancer. Operations, chemotherapy , various therapies, hopes and disappointments followed. The way Chiara dealt with her family, her friends and also with her illness was shaped by a deep relationship with Jesus. Her behavior aroused astonishment, her inner clarity and the deep joy in her eyes were touching and attractive. She got the nickname "Luce" ("Light") from Chiara Lubich , the founder of the Focolare Movement , with whom she was in close correspondence. When Chiara Badano died on October 7, 1990, the testimony of a young person remained who was able to give great importance to everyday life.

Chiara Badano was beatified on September 25, 2010 in the Santuario della Madonna del Divino Amore in Rome . The promoter of the beatification since 1990 was Livio Maritano . Her liturgical feast day is October 29th . In contrast to other blessed people, their birthday was chosen, not the day of their death.
