Chibana Chōshin

Chibana Chōshin ( Japanese 知 花 朝 信 ; born June 5, 1885 in Shuri ; † February 26, 1969 in Tōkyō ) was an Okinawan karate master and the founder of the Kobayashi current within the Shorin-ryū style, which he derived from the teachings of his Master Itosu Ankō developed.

Born in Shuri, he began his training with Master Itosu at the age of 15. At the age of 35 he opened his first dojo . He himself describes his style as Kobayashi Shorin Ryu, which he understood as the direct successor of the authentic Itosu-ryū. After moving several times, he finally returned to Okinawa to reopen his dojo there in Gibo. In 1956 he founded his own organization, the Okinawa Karate Kobudo Renmei , which he chaired until his death. In 1957 he was given the title of Hanshi .
