Chichí Peralta ( Pedro René Peralta ; born June 9, 1966 in Santo Domingo ) is a Dominican merengue musician , percussionist and composer.

Peralta was interested in music from an early age and played on a self-made Tambora when she was four . In the 1980s he was a percussionist in various groups, including Juan Luis Guerras 4-40 .

His first solo album, Pa 'Otro La'o , was released in 1997. On his second album ( De Vuelta al Barrio , 2000) he combined different styles such as son and jazz, merengue and guaguancó, pop and African rhythms. It was recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios and in Paris with the choirs of Luz Africa Light (with Henri Dikongue ) and the solo singers Cesar Olarte and Rene Geraldino , and in 2001 it was awarded the Latin Grammy for best merengue album. The Dominican government named him a Goodwill Ambassador in 2007 .
