Yousseph "Chico" Slimani (* 1971 ) is a British singer of Moroccan descent. He became known in his home country in late 2005 through the talent show The X Factor .
Live and act
Slimani was born in Wales . Shortly after his birth, his family returned to Morocco . There he grew up as a goatherd. At the age of 14 he moved back to Great Britain and settled in Crawley, West Sussex. In the following years he got by with various jobs. Among other things, he worked as a hairdresser, electrician and stripper. Eventually he joined the Extreme Force dance formation.
In 2005 he applied as a candidate for the talent show The X Factor on the British television channel ITV . During the show, music manager Sharon Osbourne was Slimani's mentor. Thanks to his pronounced talent for choreographic interludes, he quickly became one of the favorites of the jury and the audience. Still, Slimani missed the show's finale when he was voted out on the penultimate show.
He used the wave of his popularity to record a single. It's Chico Time was launched at the end of February 2006 and immediately topped the UK charts.
In 2012, he took part in the seventh season of the figure skating show Dancing on Ice and reached third place.
