State Youth Accordion Orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia

The State Youth Accordion Orchestra North Rhine-Westphalia ( LJAO NRW ) is the youngest of the seven North Rhine-Westphalian state orchestras . The approximately 30 predominantly young accordionists of the LJAO NRW are usually between 16 and 26 years old, for the most part they have been awarded prizes in various competitions or have made a positive accordionist appearance in other ways. The LJAO NRW meets at regular intervals for weekend work phases to study literature. Over the years the orchestra has performed several concert tours in Germany and abroad. Stations all over Germany, as well as trips to Finland, Italy or to Brazil and China are examples of this.

The LJAO NRW has recorded three CDs (1998, 2002 and 2008). They contain works by Boll, Brucci, Dobler and Piazzolla, among others.

history

The orchestra was founded in 1985 under the direction of Jürgen Löchter. In 1991 Guido Wagner took over the management together with the composer Hans Boll. With both of them the orchestra undertook concert tours within Germany and in 1994 an international tour for the first time. It led to the stronghold of the Italian accordion scene, to Castelfidardo . Hans Boll dedicated his most successful composition "Inmortal" to the orchestra and expressed his close ties with it. The work was premiered in Oberhausen under the direction of the composer. At a nationwide meeting for selected orchestras in Alsfeld , Hesse , in May 1998, now under the direction of Herbert Nolte, the second place was achieved with the rating "excellent". In autumn of the same year the first CD was recorded at the Cologne University of Music . In 2000, in addition to the one-week concert tour in the Dolomites, the highlight was the joint concert with the 1st Düren Accordion Orchestra. At the end of July 2001 a concert tour to Brazil took place. There the orchestra in Rio de Janeiro gave 4 concerts for the CCDIA, an organization for the protection of street children. In May 2002 the orchestra successfully took part in the competition for selected orchestras in Bruchsal and won first prize in the "Accordion" category. The new CD was also recorded in November. In 2003 a concert tour took place in Munich and in 2004 to China ( Shanghai , Tianjin and Beijing )

In 2005 Helmut Quakernack took over the position of first conductor. As part of a smooth transition, the orchestra toured Castelfidardo in Italy in October 2005, led by Helmut Quakernack and Herbert Nolte.

Conducting

Helmut Quakernack has been the first conductor of the LJAO NRW since 2005. Before that he assisted Herbert Nolte in working with the orchestra. During his long professional career, there was a great interest in a practice-oriented training of young musicians in preparation for a possible professional future as a musician and teacher. He heads the Senne private music school in Bielefeld , where he also works as a music teacher and generally as a musician and composer. Helmut Quakernack has a teaching position at the Musikhochschule für Musik Köln, Wuppertal department, and can also show that he has lectured at the academies in Remscheid and Trossingen .

In 1996 Herbert Nolte from Düren took over the position of conductor from Guido Wagner. Under his direction, the orchestra was able to realize several projects, such as B. a concert tour to Brazil. With a farewell concert during the accordion week in Remscheid in 2005, Herbert Nolte gave up the post of first conductor to Helmut Quakernack.
