Chief Minister of the Northern Territory

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chief Minister of the Northern Territory is the head of government of the Australian Territory Northern Territory .

overview

The Chief Minister is appointed by the Administrator of the Northern Territory and is usually the chairman of the largest party in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly. In times of a major crisis, however, the administrator is also able to move away from this award criterion.

Since the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly was founded in 1974, but the Northern Territory was not granted self-government until 1978, Goff Letts and his successor Paul Everingham (until 1978) carried the title of majority leader , but had de facto the same tasks as the later Chief Ministers.
