He is attributed to the liberal-conservative politicians of Australia. After the end of his political career in 2016 Giles occurs since May 2018 once a week as a television presenter in his own television show on. There he showed an uncritical behavior towards right-wing views when he helped a right-wing extremist opinion leader in Australia to appear in the media (see below on media career ).

Adam Giles ran first for the Liberal Party of Australia and later for the Country Liberal Party . For the Country Liberal Party he was not only its chairman, but also came into office as Chief Minister of the Northern Territory and member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly . Early life

Adam Giles was born as Adam Graham Romer . His mother was British and his father was a member of the Kamilaroi Aboriginal tribe . His father was killed in an accident at work, and when his mother remarried, he took his stepfather's name.

He went to school at Mount Riverview Public School and Blaxland High School . From the age of 12, he worked on weekends in a variety of jobs including a bakery, butcher, and delivery of pizza and Chinese food.

Giles didn't go to college, but learned accounting and real estate economics after high school. He gained his first experience in the real estate industry in Parramatta , then worked in the civil service at the Ministry of Real Estate and Property Management of New South Wales and was responsible for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC). He also worked as a consultant for social and economic policy at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet ( German : Ministry for the Prime Minister and the Cabinet).

Political career

He ran for the Liberal Party of Australia in 2004 in the constituency of Fraser in Australian Capital Territory on the occasion of the general election in Australia in 2004 without success. He then settled in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory with his second wife and daughter .

In 2007 he ran in the Lingiari constituency for the Country Liberal Party and was defeated. In 2008, the Braitling constituency won a seat in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly and was appointed Minister of Transportation in 2012. In 2013 Chief Minister Terry Mills was voted out while he was on a trip to Japan and he was appointed Chief Minister on March 14, 2014. Giles was voted out of his own party in 2015 and in the 2016 election to the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly was defeated by the Country Liberal Party , which lost more than 20% of its original votes. The parliamentary majority thus went to the Labor Party in the Northern Territory and Giles also lost his seat.

Media career

Then Gilles retired as a politician and has been appearing on Sky News Australia with his own program The Adam Giles Show since May 4, 2018 . This half-hour program is broadcast once a week.

When Giles recorded an interview with Blair Cottrell, a convicted criminal and leader of the right-wing group United Patriots Front , on immigration in Australia in August 2018 , it was described as a scandal in the press. Cottrell is based in Australia a. a. also known for advocating that a portrait of Adolf Hitler should be hung in every school . Cottrell advocated the thesis on the program that only trained people and farmers from South Africa are allowed to immigrate to Australia. During the public discussion, the station's management announced that Cotrell would no longer appear in the station in the future. The interview was finally broadcast in October 2018 after a long public discussion.

When the Federal Government of Australia in May 2016 announced that the Wickham Point Immigration Detention Center (German: Wickham Point Immigration Detention Center ) near Darwin would be closed in the Northern Territory, Adam Giles expressed this in military terms, because in his opinion, a "frontline of defense of northern Australia" (German: "defense line of northern Australia") is given up by the abandonment of the camp.
