Hartmut Kaminski (born May 7, 1944 in Buchenhagen , East Prussia , † June 1, 2016 in Lohmar ) was a German filmmaker , artist and art dealer .

Life

Hartmut Kaminski did his Abitur at the Aufbaugymnasium in Herchen , then first studied architecture in Braunschweig and after his exams switched to the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig. Here he met his wife Elke Jonigkeit . From 1967 both studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , she art education, he free art. Their son, Cornelius Kaminski, was born in Düsseldorf in 1968. After her state examination, Elke Jonigkeit taught as an art teacher at the Düsseldorf advanced high school for 13 years. In February 1982 - shortly after her promotion to senior teacher - she left school to devote herself entirely to her artistic and cinematic work.

While still an art student, Hartmut Kaminski traveled to Poland with his wife in 1969 to look for his birthplace. This early encounter with the country where he was born as a German with a Polish name, as well as the confrontation with the German crimes of fascism, never let go of him. This first trip was followed by more. Later the countries Russia , Belarus and the Baltic States were added.

Work as a filmmaker

Kaminski founded the Düsseldorf film class together with the Danish screenwriter and film director Ole John Povlsen (* 1939) at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , from which the Düsseldorf film group emerged . The first major joint event - "Film Kritisch" - took place in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf in 1971 , which was followed by more until 1973. In 1975/76 the Düsseldorf film group produced the feature film The Just War 1525 . In parallel, Kaminski worked with his art professor Dieter Roth and other artists who were active in Düsseldorf in the 1970s.

In 1979 Elke Jonigkeit and Kaminski founded the film production company Circle-Film . They produced and shot their films under this label. Many films, exhibitions and events planned and carried out together.

From 1979 until his death, Kaminski directed the film forum at the adult education center in Herne .

Work as an artist and art dealer

During his studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, he made friends with artists such as Robert Filliou , Roman Signer , Henning Christiansen , Bernd Minnich , André Thomkins , Dieter Roth , Ugo Dossi and many others. The works that emerged from this are now exhibited in international galleries and shown in recognized museums around the world, for example at the MOMA in New York. With his professor Dieter Roth he developed a "revolution in printmaking". Each copy of an edition becomes a unique original in the course of the printing work, comparable to a painted picture or a chiseled sculpture.

In his screen printing workshop in Düsseldorf-Flingern he printed among many others Dieter Rot's city prints , such as B. Emme , the Solothurn Bahnhofplatz , the vegetable print Thomkinspatent , the cocoa print graphic with cocoa and the rust print root treatment .

For Robert Fillou he printed the series "Projects for Sky-Writing" and "7 Childlike Uses of Warlike Material". These could be seen in the exhibition Robert Filliou - The Secret of Permanent Creation at the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (M HKA).

For Ugo Dossi he produced chess screen prints for the book Ugo Dossi - Schach & Kunst (Chess & Art) .

In 1973 he opened a gallery with works by Bernd Minnich in his apartment in Düsseldorf. This was followed by exhibitions for Roman Signer, Bernhard Lüthi , Robert Strübin and others. The aforementioned artists and others, e.g. B. Hagen Haltern, Hermann-Josef Kuhna and Robert Strübin, he represented as an art dealer at the Basel Art Fair .
