Bernd Minnich (* 1941 in Hamburg ; † June 30, 1993 in Düsseldorf ) was a German artist , painter and professor of fine arts.

Life

Bernd Minnich studied archeology, geography and art history in Hamburg from 1962 to 1963 and art in Braunschweig until 1969 and at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and Düsseldorf . In 1990 he became professor of painting at the Braunschweig University of Art . In 1972, the art curator Harald Szeemann invited him to the Kassel documenta 5 with his little “dream boxes” . He was on friendly terms with the artists Dieter Roth and Axel Heibel .

Minnich's pictures appear harmonious and are condensed in color. The colors are sometimes applied directly to large formats by hand without a brush. He primed blockboard three times with titanium white and then sanded it so that the colors lay on the smooth surface. "I enjoy formulating correct colors in the picture" For example, he took the finely divided, flaky, shimmering colors of the butterfly wing as an incentive to create a special aesthetic with this pure color in his own highly sensitive way. He liked to use certain shades of gold and silver. His pictures represent a harmonious world.

Minnich was married and lived in Düsseldorf from 1968 to 1992. He died in 1993 as a result of an earlier mistreatment that had caused him cancer.
