Erhard Stocker

Erhard Stocker (born November 18, 1951 in Cham in the canton of Zug ) is a Swiss writer .

Life and literary creation

Erhard Stocker was born and raised in Central Switzerland as the second of seven children. After apprenticeship and practice as a draftsman, he earned his living a. a. as a night watchman and devoted himself to the telematic school. In 1984 he graduated from the translation and interpreting school in Geneva with a translator's diploma. He then worked as a freelance translator for various international organizations. From 1987 to 1991 he worked as a translator, then for two years as press spokesman in the Federal Department of Finance. Since 1993 he has worked as a translator in the parliamentary services of the Federal Assembly. He lives in Lucerne.

Erhard Stocker writes narrative prose and has been a member of the association " Authors of Switzerland " since 2006

His novelistic novel “Marienseide” revolves around a traumatic childhood experience of the five-year-old Beda. In various narrative perspectives, which are increasingly interwoven with one another and join together, the context of a disaster is deciphered “in a dramaturgically clever structure” (NZZ). At 19, Beda meets Mariena, the daughter of a traveler who tries to shed light on the shadows of Beda's memory, because she has the key to interpreting his forgotten childhood experience, overlaid by her own images. But while the reader gradually reconstructs the connections, Beda is unable to remember. The historical framework of "Marienseide" is formed by the persecution of travelers in Switzerland (" Children of the Road ") and the 1956 Hungarian uprising .
