Hermann-Josef Kuhna (born December 31, 1944 in Weißensee-Ottenhausen ; † November 6/7, 2018 ) was a German painter who lived and worked in Düsseldorf .

life and work

Kuhna studied from 1964 to 1969 at the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf with Karl Bobek , Kurt Arnscheidt and Gert Weber and from the 1972 winter semester worked as a lecturer at the "Institute for Art Education, Münster Department" at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. Since 1979 he has been teaching as a professor at the Art Academy in Münster .

Hermann-Josef Kuhna was one of the artistic personalities who dealt exclusively with the effect of color. His painting consists of small patches, a tangle of individual splotches of color. The shimmering of these dots of color gives Kuhna's painting a peculiar charm between a haptic presence and an almost purely virtual appearance.

Kuhna's master students include Hugo Boguslawski , Matthias Brock , Dorothea Gelker , Eva Hollmann, Susanne Kamps, Min Clara Kim , Dorothea Schüle , Gan-Erdene Tsend, Marion Große-Wöstmann.
