Matthias Brock (born December 28, 1962 in Bielefeld ) is a German painter.

After graduation in 1982 studied Brock from 1984 at the Academy of Art Münster at Johannes Brus and was in 1988 a master student at Hermann-Josef Kuhna . He completed his studies with the diploma "Free Art" and the 1st state examination for teaching qualification in secondary level I / II. From 1993 to 1995 he had a teaching position for nude painting at the Art Academy in Münster. In 2000 and 2016 he received a scholarship from the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris .

A recurring motif in his large-format oil paintings is nature, especially small animals (especially reptiles, amphibians, rodents and insects) as well as fruits and vegetables, which are depicted in the style of a nature study or as still life in a supernatural size. Since 2016, a group of works has been dedicated to depicting people.

Matthias Brock is married to the art therapist and painter Sigrun Brock (née Bathke) and has three children. He lives in Cologne and works in Frechen in a shared studio with the painter Elizabeth Weckes. Brock is a member of the RheinBrücke artist group .
