Johannes Brus

Johannes Brus (born June 2, 1942 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German artist . He lives in Essen .

Life

From 1964 to 1971 he studied at the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf . From 1986 to 2007 he was a professor at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig ; his student included u. a. Katharina Grosse , Karin Kneffel , Matthias Brock , Tim Berresheim and Fabian Bohnmann .

Brus works mainly as a sculptor and photographer. He experiments with different techniques with which he breaks the conventions of the respective genre. Many of his works are characterized by an idiosyncratic sense of humor. Brus addresses aspects of cultural memory and the functions of images.
