Chief constable

Chief constable is a British police rank which is used throughout the country with a few exceptions and is the highest rank there. The exceptions include the City of London Police , the Metropolitan Police , the British Transport Police , the Ministry of Defense Police and the Civil Nuclear Constabulary ; there is often the rank of commissioner .

The chief constable rank is also used outside the island by the Isle of Man Constabulary , the States of Guernsey Police Service , the States of Jersey Police , the President of the Association of Chief Police Officers (under the Police Reform Act 2002) and, until 2004, the chief of the Royal Park Constabulary . There are currently 50 chief constables in the United Kingdom and its territories .
