The Childs Glacier is a glacier in the US state of Alaska . It is located in the Chugach National Forest 50 km east-northeast of Cordova .
geography
The 16 km long Childs Glacier has its nutrient area at an altitude of 1200 m in the Chugach Mountains south of Mount Williams . Childs Glacier initially flows northeast, but then turns in an east-southeast direction and ends on the west bank of the Copper River across from the Miles Glacier Bridge , also known as the Million Dollar Bridge , at the eastern end of the Copper River Highway . The mean width of the glacier is 1.4 km.
Naming
The glacier was named after George Washington Childs of Philadelphia by WR Abercrombie during his exploration of the Copper River in 1884.
