China aktuell was a scientific journal on political, economic and social developments in the People's Republic of China as well as in Hong Kong , Macau and Taiwan . It was published between 1972 and 2009 and has been continued in English as the Journal of Current Chinese Affairs since early 2009 .

Editor of China currently was the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies (GIGA Institute of Asian Studies) in Hamburg . The bimonthly journal was part of the GIGA Journal Family of the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies (Hamburg). The editorial team was headed by Karsten Giese and Heike Holbig.
concept
China aktuell offered studies and reports with a focus on politics, economy and society. Important current events were commented on in background analyzes. The trade journal was supplemented by the online publication China aktuell Data Supplement , which was constantly updated and documented changes in political leadership positions, institutions, laws, etc.
The scientific papers were before publication a double anonymous peer review process ( peer review subject), to ensure the quality of the contributions.
The magazine is aimed at professionals involved in science and politics, business, administration and the media with China, as well as anyone who has a fundamental interest in developments in the People's Republic of China (including Hong Kong and Macao) and Taiwan. The journal belonged to the holdings of many public and academic libraries in Germany and abroad and was classified, for example, at the University of Bonn as one of the most important German-language periodicals on current developments in China.
China aktuell was part of an open access pilot project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). China aktuell has been transferred to the Open Access Journal and, in addition to the print version, is offered online worldwide.
