Journal of Current Chinese Affairs is a scientific journal on political, economic and social developments in the People's Republic of China as well as in Hong Kong , Macau and Taiwan . Journal of Current Chinese Affairs is the English-language successor to China aktuell .

The Journal of Current Chinese Affairs is published by the GIGA Institute for Asian Studies (GIGA Institute for Asian Studies) in Hamburg in cooperation with the White Rose East Asia Center at the University of Leeds . The journal, which appears four times a year, is part of the GIGA Journal Family of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA, Hamburg). The editorial team is headed by Georg Strüver.

The GIGA Journal Family was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as an open access pilot project. As part of the project, several established social science journals, including the Journal of Current Chinese Affairs , were converted into open access journals at the beginning of 2009 and are thus available online free of charge worldwide in addition to the print version.

Journal of Current Chinese Affairs offers studies and reports with a focus on politics, economics and society. Important current events are commented on in background analyzes.
