Giorgi (Goga) Chaindrawa ( Georgian გიორგი ხაინდრავა ; born July 7, 1956 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian politician ( Republican Party ). The film producer was Georgia's Minister for Conflict Resolution from February 2004 to July 2006 .

Life

In 1979 he completed a geology degree at the Georgian Polytechnic Institute (today Georgian Technical University ) in Tbilisi. In 1984 he passed an exam at the Cinematographic Faculty of the Tbilisi Theater Institute .

From 1988 he became head of the Theater-Institut Studios . In 1991 he moved to Studio TMS as director . He produced feature films and documentaries . Including The Truth of Georgia , The Georgian Orthodox Church , Self-Portrait , The Bell , Telephone of Kindness , The Nylon Fir , Robinsonade , Black Eyes and Urga , which have won international film awards. Most recently he was director of a private radio station that belonged to Eduard Shevardnadze's son-in-law .

Chaindrawa was a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of Georgia. From 1992 to 1993 he was Minister of State for Abkhaz Affairs.

He took part in the Georgian Rose Revolution , which led to the resignation of President Shevardnadze. With the writer Dawit Turashvili and the employees of the Tbilisi Freedom Institute Giga Bokeria and Dawit Zurabishvili , he formed a committee for civil resistance on November 10, 2003 , which campaigned in universities, organizations and the province for measures against the government. In February 2004 he was elected Minister of State for Conflict Resolution by Parliament on the proposal of President Mikheil Saakashvili .

In October 2005 it triggered a government crisis. On a business trip to Moscow , he publicly criticized the dismissal of Foreign Minister Salome Zurabishvili by Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli as a "wrong step". Zurabishvili was the "most successful foreign minister in Georgia" and the allegations against her were "incompetent and mostly wrong".

He was dismissed from his post on July 21, 2006 after publicly arguing with Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili over the legality of police searches of cars at the Russian Embassy in Tbilisi.

He is married and has two children. He speaks Georgian, English and Russian.
