Dawit Zurabishvili

Dawit Zourabichvili ( Georgia დავით ზურაბიშვილი * 16th March 1957 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian non-party politicians . He is a member of the Georgian Parliament and chairman of the Democratic Front group .

Life

Zurabishvili studied economics at the Tbilisi State University . In 1996, along with Levan Ramishvili , Giwi Targamadze and Giga Bokeria, he was co-founder and analyst of the Freedom Institute in Tbilisi, which initially opposed a ban on the private broadcaster Rustavi 2 . It later worked against corruption and assisted the government in drawing up legal reforms in Georgia.

Zurabishvili took part in the Georgian Rose Revolution , which led to the resignation of President Shevardnadze. With the director Giorgi Chaindrawa , the writer Dawit Turashvili and his colleague from the Freedom Institute , Giga Bokeria , he formed a committee for civil resistance on November 10, 2003 , which promoted measures against the government in universities, organizations and the province.

On March 28, 2004 he was elected on the list of the National Movement - Democrats (NMD) as a member of the Georgian Parliament, became deputy chairman of the NMD parliamentary group and deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on education, culture and science.

In October 2005 he left the NMD parliamentary group, calling President Mikheil Saakashvili a " daydreamer " who did not advance the country's democracy and economy. Together with parliamentarians from the Conservative Party and the Republican Party of Georgia , he founded the opposition faction Democratic Front . It now has 15 members.

Zurabishvili is married and has two children. He is not related to the former Foreign Minister Salome Zurabishvili and is politically opposed to her.
