Chip Select

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In digital technology, Chip Select (CS) or Output Enable (OE) is a binary signal on an integrated circuit with which the function of such a circuit can be switched on or off in whole or in part. The Chip Select is usually implemented as a single pin (digital input) that is connected to a control line .

This is used, for example, to construct a larger coherent total memory with consecutive addresses from several memory modules . In this case, bus lines are connected to several memory modules in parallel and only one specific module to be used is selected with the chip select signal. All remaining modules on the same bus are inactive for this (very short) period, their bus lines are internally switched to high resistance.

Chip select inputs are often " low active ", that is, the module is not activated with a high level "H", but with a low level "L".
